Rangers expert ‘shocked’ by Charlie McCann news

Alan Hutton is “shocked” Rangers have let Charlie McCann complete a move to Forest Green Rovers.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Gers right-back insisted McCann could have offered something to Michael Beale’s current squad.

On Tuesday (24 January), the Light Blues confirmed the 20-year-old has signed for League One side Forest Green.

As quoted by the BBC (24 January), head of performance and recruitment at Forest Green said the youngster is “an absolutely outstanding talent”.

The midfielder made eight first team appearances for the Ibrox club after joining from Man United in 2021 and four of those have come this season.

The Northern Ireland youth international featured for Beale in the League Cup semi-final last weekend (15 January), replacing Kemar Roofe in extra time.

McCann made six league appearances for the B team this season and scored four goals and provided one assist in those outings.

Hutton couldn’t believe McCann had left Ibrox.

I am most surprised about Charlie McCann going to Forest Green,” he told Football Insider.

He has not played so much, he had a little cameo against Aberdeen in the semi-final. He looked like a talented player who could maybe give something at only 20 years of age.

Rangers

To see that he is going is a bit of a shock.

Every young footballer wants to play and it is difficult to break through into Rangers and Celtic. So if you can’t do that then you need to find first team football somewhere else.
