Rangers expert suggests the real reason Alfredo Morelos is unfit and off the pace
Alfredo Morelos is still yet to return to full fitness for Rangers, according to Alex McLeish.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Rangers and Scotland boss claimed Morelos would have opened the scoring for Rangers in their 3-0 defeat to Napoli on Wednesday night (14 September) if he was match sharp.
The 26-year-old made his first start of the season in the Gers’ third consecutive defeat at Ibrox in the Champions League.
He had a great chance to score after just 30 seconds but his shot was just inches wide.
Morelos has less than a year left to run on his Ibrox deal.
“I think they got off to a flier and with the goal they almost scored, if Morelos was nearer full fitness he probably would have scored,” McLeish told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“It’s a shame that when you introduce him to the team, he’s not quite fully up to it. Although, he didn’t let the team down as such. That is the level that you come against.
“Rangers come out the traps, they were much fresher looking, mentally they were in a better place. Maybe, missing the weekend’s game was a blessing for them.
“The team looked better, leg wise, they had a real go.”
Morelos was banished from the Rangers squad earlier this season as Giovanni van Bronckhorst claimed he was not in the right state of mind to play.
He missed the end of last season with a thigh injury that he was still nursing in pre-season.
