‘Rangers face immediate problem – they are in much worse position than Celtic’
Rangers are facing an immediate problem as they are in a “much worse” position than Celtic.
The Gers have largely failed to make money on players in recent years after several of their signings have underwhelmed at Ibrox.
The Scottish giants have made around £50million profit on player sales over the past decade.
Finance expert Stefan Borson exclusively told Football Insider it would be “transformational” for Rangers and Celtic if they can start producing big player-trading profits on a regular basis.
Celtic sold Nicolas Kuhn to Como for around £17million earlier this month, ensuring they made a significant profit on the winger.
Brendan Rodgers’s side signed the 25-year-old for £3million from Rapid Vienna in January last year.

Rangers have agreed ‘very disappointing’ deals
Borson insisted Rangers’ player-trading profits have been “very disappointing” in recent years.
He told Football Insider: “If either Celtic, Rangers or somebody else can start producing player-trading profits on a regular basis either at the academy or by buying and developing and then selling on, it’s going to put them in an amazing position because it’s going to effectively guarantee them Champions League football if they can keep bringing these players through.
“Now, the challenge is can you keep finding replacements if you are selling?
“But if you can do that, if you can find a way to take the money here, reinvest it into three or four similar players to the one you just sold, similar profile in terms of bought for sub £5million and sold for nearly €20million (£17.3million).
“If you can keep doing that, then clearly you’re going to produce a transformational business compared to where you’ve been before, where profits from player sales have been very disappointing.
“Rangers are much worse. Rangers have barely sold a player for material profit for five years. So, they’ve probably got a more immediate problem.
“But if you can make this a central piece of your business plan, then it’s going to be transformational.”

Rangers set sights on Luuk de Jong deal
In terms of a potential incoming at Ibrox, Football Insider revealed on 18 July Rangers are interested in signing Luuk de Jong on a free transfer after he left PSV Eindhoven upon the expiry of his contract.
Sources say Russell Martin’s side are giving “serious consideration” to bringing in the striker on a one-year deal, with a potential option for an additional year.
Football Insider revealed on 20 July Rangers want to sign De Jong and Conor Coady to add experience and know-how to the dressing room at Ibrox.
