Rangers found themselves at the centre of a bizarre rumour last week claiming the Gers would go into administration on Monday – with some bookmakers suspending betting on the Ibrox side being relegated last week – and the Light Blues’ fans were in hysterics when it unsurprisingly turned out to be false.
After a number of Celtic fans placed bets on the Gers being relegated – on the strength of rumours circulated by a small group of Celtic bloggers – bookies closed the market.
The rumours reached a head on social media with Irish journalist Phil Mac Giolla Bhian claiming – and not for the first time – that the Gers board were preparing for an “imminent insolvency event.”
Rangers have heard countless doomsday prophesies in the six years since the club’s financial meltdown in 2012 – and couldn’t help themselves when this latest one turned out to be fantasy.
Here are some of their comments on Twitter:

Instead of going into administration, Rangers have move a step closer to securing more new faces as Graeme Murty revamps his squad ahead of the second half of the season.
Nottingham Forest striker Jason Cummings has been undergoing a media, according to STV, while the Gers are reported to have agreed a deal with Norwich for defender Russell Martin.
In other Rangers news, the Gers are expected to announce this done deal within hours after a medical is scheduled.
