Rangers Under-20’s continued their Academy Games programme with a 3-2 win over UEFA Youth League runners-up Benfica in Lisbon on Monday – and Gers fans were left raving about Serge Atakayi after the winger scored the winning goal.
Two goals from Andy Dallas put the Gers in front twice before being pegged back each time by the Portuguese side before Atakayi heroically scored a late winner with less than 10 minutes remaining.
The Congolese winger has been in fantastic form for the young Gers in recent months after his move from FF Jaro in Finland.
Now, Rangers fans are urging the club to promote the rising star to the first-team, with one claiming that he’s better than current senior player Josh Windass.
Here are some of their comments on Twitter:
Only ever see good things about that wee serge atakayi wonder how long it will be before Kenny miller picks him for the first team canny be worse than what we have

Realistically I'd start Atakayi ahead of Windass on Wednesday.

Give Atakayi a chance in the first time, he is at least scoring goals.

Atakayi moved to Ibrox last year after a stint in Finland with FF Jaro after he – and his entire team – sought asylum in the Scandinavian country.
The youngster has been involved with the first-team as an unused substitute but is yet to make his senior debut for the club.
The win continues Rangers good run of away form against some of the best sides in Europe with only PSV Eindhoven beating the young Gers so far despite playing the likes of Manchester City, KVV Mechelen and Feyenoord.
In other Rangers news, Gers player ratings against Dundee sees this senior player receive a shambolic 3/10.
