Jamie Barjonas of Rangers makes a sliding tackle

Rangers midfielder Jamie Barjonas came off the bench against Motherwell on Wednesday night to replace the injured Ryan Jack – and fans were blown away by the 18-year-old’s performance against the Steelmen.

Barjonas has made a handful of appearances this season for the first-team and has been a regular feature on the bench for both Pedro Caixinha and Graeme Murty and played the majority of the 2-0 win over the Steelmen.

With Jack now a major doubt for Saturday’s Old Firm clash, the 18-year-old could be set to make his first start against Celtic this weekend.

Fans were delighted to see such a composed performance from the youngster with one saying he was the “most influential” player in the second-half.

Barjonas was a stand-out for Graeme Murty’s Under-20’s side last season and has seen his performances rewarded with first-team games under both Murty and Caixinha.

Alongside Ross McCrorie and Jason Holt, Barjonas dictated the tempo of the win over the Steelmen and could have even got his name on the scoresheet only to be denied by a fantastic save by Trevor Carson.

Barjonas has made nine appearances for the first-team since making his first-team debut towards the end of last season.
