Rangers’ perfect start to 2018 came crashing to an end on Saturday when the Gers lost 2-1 to Hibernian at Ibrox – and Gers fans were distraught at James Tavernier’s performance against the Edinburgh side.
The full-back had a quiet afternoon by his usual standards as Hibs marshalled him expertly out of the game by deploying John McGinn to essentially man mark him before the 27-year-old foolishly gave away a penalty minutes after the Gers had equalised.
Tavernier has been one of the Gers’ best players this season but his previous performances for the Light Blues counted for nothing as fans destroyed his showing against Neil Lennon’s side.
After seeing the former Wigan defender give away the penalty which cost their side three valuable points fans were understandably furious – with one destroying Tavernier, saying he is a “liability” for Graeme Murty’s side.
Here are some of their comments on Twitter:

The result leaves the Gers six points Aberdeen in the Scottish Premiership after playing one game fewer than the Dons.
After Celtic’s defeat earlier in the day, Gers fans were hoping their side could capitalise on their bitter rival’s misfortune and close the gap to the runaway leaders in the league table.
With Rangers back in action on Tuesday night, Murty would need to wait long to see if there is any reaction from hi squad after such a disappointing result after winning all three of their games after the winter break so far.
