'Not a loss', Donkey - Rangers fans slam player making final appearance for club v Hibernian

Rangers defender David Bates made his final appearance for the Light Blues in Sunday’s Scottish Premiership clash with Hibernian – and Gers fans were not happy with the defender’s performance as he had a nightmare afternoon.

The 21-year-old will move to join newly-relegated Hamburg in the summer as the Germans prepare for life in the German second tier for the first time.

Bates’s final appearance didn’t get off to a great start when the defender conceded a penalty after an off-the-ball incident withs Hibs striker Florian Kamberi, which the striker stroked home.

Gers fans were not impressed with Bates’ final performance – with one saying the defender is an “absolute bomb scare.”

Here are some of their comments on Twitter:

Bates has made 28 appearances for the Gers in his two seasons at Ibrox after joining – initially on a development loan – from Raith Rovers.

The Kirkcaldy-born defender has been a regular in the first-team this season and played a key role after the winter break as the Gers went on their best run of results since returning to the top-flight.

The defender was one of a number of players who made their last appearance for the Gers against Hibs – with Sean Goss, Russell Martin, Jamie Murphy and Jason Cummings all coming to the end of their loan deals – although the Light Blues have an option to make Cummings and Murphy’s moves permanent.

In other Rangers news, the Gers are firmly in the running with Celtic to sign this £120,000-a-week Premier League player who wants to move on in the summer.
