Rangers fans have reacted on Twitter after Joey Barton called the standard of Scottish football “pathetic” – and they haven’t been shy in making their feelings known about Barton’s performances at Ibrox.
Barton arrived at Ibrox in 2016 before skulking out the back door months later after being suspended by the club following an altercation with Mark Warburton before being signed off sick then having his contract ripped up made the comments on The Alan Brazil Sports Breakfast on Talksport.
Rangers fans found Barton’s comments ridiculous after his woeful performances in the five games he managed to play in during his time in Scotland – with one fan saying he was “rotten” during his Rangers spell.
Here are some of their comments on Twitter:
The footballs far from the greatest but how come joey Barton couldn't even look like a good player in Scotland then,,maybe he should shut up before taking a pop,,let's face it,,Barton was rotten in the spl,,,says it all really

Isnt the best standard I dont think any1 would argue. Its the fact that he wasnt good enough and tries to blame everyone else. Watch him vs Hamilton & Celtic. He is the worst player on the park and its all down to individual mistakes not the quality of his teammates.

Annoying how he assumes everyone wants to go down to the Premier League. Of course a lot of players do. But some boys up here just want to play for the club they love (Docherty/Tierney for example) never see that down there now. Far too much money. Itβs a product there not a game

After being suspended by the Gers in the wake of an embarrassing performance against Celtic in a 5-1 Old Firm defeat, Barton spent two months trying to get out of his contract before eventually leaving the Gers after less than six months.

The former Ranger midfielder had already set a ridiculously high bar for himself at Ibrox with his public comments about being head and shoulders above everyone in the league then failing to deliver anything close to what he had bragged about on Twitter.
Barton would quickly re-join Burnley after leaving the Gers but was later banned from all football for 13 months for serious breaches of the FA’s rules on betting.
In other Rangers news, fans have demanded that the club signs this Old Firm scourge in the summer, claiming he is better than Celtic’s Olivier Ntcham.
