Career ended, 'Should never play for Rangers again' - Fans destroy player after loss to Celtic

By Richard Parks

Rangers fans have taken to Twitter to criticise Russell Martin for his performance in their team’s 4-0 Scottish Cup walloping by Celtic on Sunday.

The centre-back, 32, played the full 90 minutes of the semi-final clash at Hampden Park, initially in tandem with Ross McCrorie and then alongside Bruno Alves after the youngster’s 51st-minute red card.

But Martin could not subdue a Celtic attack that demonstrated the gulf in class between the two teams and kept Brendan Rodgers’ side on course for a double treble.

First-half goals from Tom Rogic and Callum McGregor, and second-half penalties from Moussa Dembele and Olivier Ntcham secured a comprehensive scoreline.

Martin, who was signed on loan from Norwich City in January, made his 12th appearance for Rangers.

But a section of Gers supporters on social media claimed it should be his last for the club, with many urging the club not to extend his loan beyond the end of this season.
