'Absolutely hopeless' - Rangers fans slam defender after shocker v Motherwell

Rangers fans have absolutely savaged Bruno Alves’ performance against Motherwell after the Portugal international had an absolute howler against the Fir Park side.

The 95-times capped defender struggled to do the simplest things right as the Gers huffed and puffed against Stephen Robinson’s side in their 2-2 draw on Saturday.

The defender was picked ahead of fit-again Ross McCrorie in the starting XI and Gers fans were distraught with the 36-year-old’s performance – with one saying they were going to celebrate if the Portuguese completed a pass.

Here are some of their comments on Twitter:

Alves has been a disappointment for Gers fans since his summer switch from Serie A side Cagliari and feel the Light Blues need to replace him sooner rather than later.

The former Porto, Fenerbahce and Zenit St. Petersburg hopes to go to this summer’s World Cup although if his performances for the Gers are anything to go by he’s unlikely to be on the plane to Russia.

Alves has made 22 appearances for the Light Blues this season but had struggled to displace David Bates from the starting XI before injury ruled the former Raith Rovers star out for at least six weeks.

Alves still has one year remaining on his Ibrox contract.
