Rangers fans react to rookie trio selection against Kilmarnock

By Danny Wright

Rangers fans have taken to Twitter after Pedro Caixinha’s surprise decision to include three rookies in his squad to play Kilmarnock on Wednesday night.

Caixinha surprised the media by announcing the team news the day before the match in a press conference that was covered by the club’s official Twitter page.

Myles Beerman and David Bates will make their first senior appearances for the club while Helensburgh teenager Aidan Wilson will take a seat with the other substitutes at Rugby Park.

Beerman, 18, is likely to start at left-back and was previously part of the Manchester City academy.

He also has two caps for the Malta Under-21 team.

Bates, 20, is the oldest of the trio and will play at centre-back alongside Danny Wilson.

Aidan Wilson already has one appearance for the Gers first team when he played the Challenge Cup loss to Stenhousemuir in August.

The 18-year-old plays at centre-back and has been called into action alongside Beerman and Bates after the Light Blues were plunged into an injury crisis.

Clint Hill, Rob Kiernan, Lee Wallace and Lee Hodson are all out injured which means that Caixinha has had to field a completely different back four to the one that faced Motherwell on Saturday.

However, the Rangers supporters have been largely happy about Caixinha’s decision to opt for youth.

Here is a selection of tweets from Rangers fans about the trio’s inclusion:
