Rangers fans ruthlessly mock Callum McGregor after Dundee United vs Celtic pitch criticism: ‘Surprised he wasn’t crying’
Rangers fans have been revelling in Celtic’s misfortune once again after they were beaten 2-0 away at Dundee United on Sunday.
Second-half goals from Will Ferry and Emmanuel Agyei condemned the Bhoys to a surprise defeat at Tannadice, in a result that sees them remain below Rangers after their win over Aberdeen on Saturday.
Danny Rohl’s side are now second and just three points behind Scottish Premiership leaders Hearts, with two games still to play before the league splits in two.
Celtic captain Callum McGregor took a swipe at the state of Dundee United’s pitch in his post-match interview, and perhaps unsurprisingly, Rangers fans wasted no time in ripping into the midfielder for his criticism.
Rangers face Dundee United on home turf in their next outing, meaning they will have no such difficulty with the playing surface at Ibrox.

McGregor was substituted by Martin O’Neill shortly before the hour mark in Celtic’s defeat on Sunday, after the skipper had failed to make a telling impact on the game.
The trip to Tannadice was the 32-year-old’s first game since returning from the injury that ruled him out of the Scottish Cup win at Ibrox and the 3-1 victory over Motherwell.

However, it was not a happy return for the veteran, and he was quick to point out the state of the pitch, which appeared dry in several areas, during his post-match interview.
“You see the conditions, the pitch is difficult, especially with the way that we want to play the game as well,” McGregor said.
“You have to take that into consideration; we don’t want to make an excuse out of it, but it does play a part.”
McGregor’s suggestion has prompted plenty of mocking jabs from the Rangers faithful, who have taken to X to lap up the reaction to their rivals’ defeat.
One supporter labelled the Scotland international as the “hide and seek champion when Celtic drop points,” while another pointed out that both teams played on the same pitch.
Several also felt that McGregor had intended to use the playing surface as an excuse, despite suggesting otherwise, while one supporter even added that they were “surprised he wasn’t crying” during the interview.
- @Jimbob21578: “They should take their own grass to away games.”
- @Joolsie2: “Embarrassing or what…”
- @JDTHEHITCHER: “Captain pointy returns and they are beaten.”
Gers battling Celtic for Elijah Just
Football Insider revealed on Monday that Rangers and Celtic are ready to battle for Motherwell’s best players this summer, with Old Firm interest inevitable in several key members of Jens Berthel Askou’s squad.
Elijah Just has recently emerged as a key transfer target for both sides of Glasgow, while Tawanda Maswanhise was another star who was linked with the duo back in January.
The Well have enjoyed an excellent campaign in Berthel Askou’s debut Scottish Premiership season, but keeping hold of both their manager and the key components of their squad for next term could be another story altogether.
Rangers and Celtic are both well-placed off the pitch to be able to pick off the best talent from other clubs in the league, and it is likely to be no different in that regard this summer.
