'Sign him up' - Rangers fans urge Caixinha to move for 31-time international available on a free

By Will Butcher

Steven Whittaker has been told he can leave Championship side Norwich on a free transfer in the summer – and Rangers fans have urged their side to bring him back to Ibrox.

Whittaker, 32, left the Gers back in 2012 when the club was forced to build from the bottle in the fourth tier of Scottish football, along with the likes of Steven Naismith and Kyle Lafferty.

The Canaries revealed on their official website that John Ruddy, Sebastien Bassong, Ryan Bennett, Youssouf Mulumbu, and Michael Turner will join Lafferty and Whittaker in leaving on a free transfer upon the expiration of their current contract in June.

With Whittaker available on a free transfer, the 31-time Scotland international could be set to return north of the border as Pedro Caixinha looks to bolster his side this summer.

Rangers fans took to Twitter to urge boss Caixinha to re-sign the versatile defender, who can play at either right-back or centre-back.

Here is a selection of their messages on Twitter:

Whittaker made just four appearances shy of 200 outings in all competitions during his time at Ibrox, after moving to the 54-time Scottish champions from Hibernian in 2007.

In other Rangers transfer news, this 11-time capped international is also reportedly on Caixinha’s radar ahead of a summer move.
