‘Rangers fans won’t believe it’ as ‘good news’ lands at Ibrox – Keith Wyness
Aberdeen’s former chief Keith Wyness has insisted Patrick Stewart is a “very good appointment” for Rangers and is “good news” for the club.
Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, the 66-year-old – who served as CEO at Aberdeen between 2000 and 2004, had lengthy spells as the chief of Everton and Aston Villa and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – claimed he is “surprised” the Gers were able to lure the ex-Man United chief to Ibrox.
Rangers confirmed on Monday (25 November) that Stewart will take the role and start work on 16 December – the day after their meeting with Celtic in the Scottish League Cup final.
He left Man United at the end of last season after 18 years at Old Trafford, where he took on the interim CEO role following Richard Arnold’s departure.
Stewart’s arrival comes after James Bisgrove left the club for a move to the Saudi Pro League six months ago.
He is a Glasgow University graduate and former lawyer, who acted as Man United’s chief legal officer and general counsel during the reign of Sir Alex Ferguson.
‘Good news’ at Rangers ‘for the first time in a long time’, says Wyness
Wyness insisted Stewart “has the right experience and is very well-connected”.
He told Football Insider‘s Insider Track podcast: “The Rangers fans won’t believe it, but I’m pleased to say this is good news for the club.
“I think Patrick Stewart is a very good appointment for them. He’s a Scotsman from Aberdeen, he’s got the right experience and he’s very well-connected.

“To be honest, I’m surprised Rangers got him.
“I’m surprised at the quality of this appointment. For Rangers fans, for the first time in a long time, it’s good news on the horizon.”
