Rangers are in the market for two centre-forwards amid uncertainty over the future of Alfredo Morelos.

As revealed by Football Insider last week, the club are assessing two striker profiles: one who would be a first choice to directly replace the Colombian and the other an impact forward who would provide cover and competition.

A report in Italy has suggested Rangers have made a firm move for Real Valladolid striker Sekou Gassama.

Ibrox sources have told Football Insider that the club have not tabled a near-£3million bid, as has been suggested by transfer site Tuttomercatoweb.

Indeed, there is currently no interest from Rangers in the 25-year-old, who is currently on loan in Spain’s second tier at Fuenlabrada.

The Senegalese has scored three goals in his last four games since the restart and has an impressive record of nine goals from 21 La Liga 2 matches this season.

But Rangers are currently pursuing other targets as they plan to stop Celtic’s 10-in-a-row bid next season and secure the first major trophy of Steven Gerrard’s reign.

Rangers have already finalised three senior signings before the window has formally opened.

Ianis Hagi has signed on a permanent deal for an initial £3million, Calvin Bassey has joined from Leicester City on a pre-contract and Jon McLaughlin has agreed a free transfer from Sunderland.

In other Rangers news, a journalist has waxed lyrical to Football Insider as the club finalise “outstanding” new signing.
