Rangers handed 'big' blow as four more departures revealed - Mills

Rangers have a “big issue” as at least four of Steven Gerrard’s backroom staff is set to follow him to Aston Villa, according to Danny Mills.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Premier League and England full-back claimed Rangers will have been surprised Gerrard quit now.

The Ibrox giants confirmed yesterday (November 11) the 41-year-old had joined the Premier League outfit.

Football Insider revealed earlier that day he is set to be joined at Villa Park by his highly-regarded assistants Gary McAllister and Michael Beale as well as head of performance Jordan Milsom and technical coach Tom Culshaw.

Beale confirmed on Instagram today (November 12) he has left Rangers and backed them to go from “strength to strength” in his absence.

“The fact Rangers have lost their whole backroom staff is a big issue,” Mills told Football Insider correspondent Connor Whitley.

“They’ve lost five key people, in effect.

“It’s a huge season where if they win the title they go straight into the Champions League. The financial power that brings, the ability to attract players off the back of that is huge.

“Clearly, Rangers weren’t planning for this. They’ve got to be careful about who they get in next and how quickly because it’s a huge season for them.

“They accepted that Steven Gerrard would leave Rangers eventually, but I think it’s happened quicker than they thought. The timing for Rangers is a little bit unfortunate.”

Gerrard leaves the Gers four points clear at the top of the Scottish Premiership after 13 games of the season.

Their Glasgow rivals Celtic are in second and are on an unbeaten run of seven games in the league.
