Rangers have appointed ‘big hitter’ after confirmed Ibrox news – Stefan Borson
Rangers have appointed a “big hitter” after Patrick Stewart has been confirmed as their new chief executive at Ibrox.
That is the view of finance expert Stefan Borson, who exclusively told Football Insider Stewart will bring an “unbelievable” understanding of where the European game is at following his time at Manchester United.
Rangers announced on 25 November Stewart will begin his new role on 16 December – the day after Rangers play Celtic in the Scottish League Cup final.
He left Man United at the end of last season after 18 years at Old Trafford, where he took on the interim CEO role following Richard Arnold’s departure.
Stewart’s arrival comes after James Bisgrove left the club for a move to the Saudi Pro League six months ago.
He is a Glasgow University graduate and former lawyer, who acted as Man United’s chief legal officer and general counsel during the reign of Sir Alex Ferguson.
Meanwhile, The Scottish Sun reported on 23 November Malcolm Offord is the leading contender to replace John Bennett as the new permanent chairman at Ibrox.
Rangers are set to make two high-quality appointments
Borson believes Rangers are making two high-quality appointments by bringing in the new club chiefs.
“Patrick Stewart is a very experienced football operator,” Borson told Football Insider.
“He used to be general counsel at Man United and then he was interim CEO. I think it’s quite a big hitter for Rangers to have recruited him.
“It’s easy to get the scale and importance of Rangers above and beyond their profit and loss. It’s a very significant club.
“They do have issues, particularly on the financial side of things if they are not in the Champions League.
“But he looks like a very good hire to me for Rangers and, likewise, the incoming chairman looks like a very high-quality addition.
“I think it’s a step in the right direction to get those people around the table.

“Clearly, Patrick Stewart is going to have an unbelievable, in-depth understanding of where the European game is at generally from his time at Man United.
“He’s had a seat at the top table for over a decade, so he will bring something to Rangers, that’s for sure.”
