Rangers strike another major deal as they prepare for Champions League - Kieran Maguire

Rangers can use their status as a potential Champions League club to negotiate bigger and better sponsorship arrangements.

That is according to finance boffin Kieran Maguire, speaking exclusively to Football Insider after an extension with Utilita was revealed on 16th July.

Rangers’ association with Utilita has spanned five seasons and commercial chief James Bisgrove called them a “fantastic and committed club partner.”

The length of the extension has not been specified but the Scottish champions extended with the same sponsor by a single year last July.

The electricity and gas supplier will continue to sponsor the women’s team kit and also stand in for 32Red on the front of junior replica shirts.

Maguire applauded the extension from both the sponsor and the club’s viewpoint.

He told Football Insider correspondent Adam Williams: “I’ve seen Utilita do this for a few clubs. It’s a smart niche.

“When it comes to eyeballs, Rangers are getting a lot of attention, certainly domestically and abroad as well. It shows that sponsors see them as profitable.

“That makes them an attractive proposition for a sponsor. It’s a club that potentially is playing in the Champions League group stages in eight weeks.

“If I was on the Rangers side, that’s the approach I would be taking from a selling perspective.

Rangers will face either PSV Eindhoven or Malmo in the Champions League third qualifying round.

They must then navigate one more tie if they are to make it to the group stages of Europe’s premier club competition.
