‘Rangers have massive opportunity after done deal’ – Stefan Borson
Rangers’ new owners are looking to put the club in a better position on and off the pitch after taking over at Ibrox.
The Scottish giants announced on 30 May the US consortium has now completed its takeover after receiving the approval of the Scottish FA.
It has also been confirmed they have committed to invest an initial £20million into the club.
The ownership group is spearheaded by health insurance tycoon Andrew Cavenagh and Leeds United chairman Paraag Marathe, who is the president of 49ers Enterprises – the investment arm of NFL franchise the San Francisco 49ers.
Finance expert Stefan Borson exclusively told Football Insider Rangers have a “massive” opportunity to improve their financial situation if they can become a regular qualifier for the Champions League.
The Glasgow side failed to win a trophy in the latest campaign as they finished 17 points behind Old Firm rivals Celtic in the Scottish Premiership table, ensuring they will enter the Champions League in the second qualifying round.
Russell Martin has been appointed as the new head coach as he looks to improve matters on the pitch at Ibrox.
Rangers’ revenue increased from £83.8million to a record-breaking £88.3million in 2023-24, but their net losses surged by £4.1million to £17.2million.

Rangers told to agree quality deals
Borson insisted Rangers have to start buying better-quality players.
He told Football Insider: “I did a bit of a deep dive on Rangers recently and the big noticeable thing is the number of the player sales is just terrible.
“They have made almost no profits over the last sort of five years and they need to fix that. I think they need to get to a position where they’re buying a better quality of player.
“Where English clubs in particular are shopping in Scotland, taking up profits, reinvesting it both in the academy and also in the squad and then building a proper regular qualifier for the Champions League.
“If they do that, there’s a massive opportunity for Rangers. Domestic is just a bit of a sideshow these days.
“They have got brilliant matchday revenue. That’s not going anywhere from the domestic game. But the TV deal is terrible and isn’t really going to massively improve.
“So, the focus has got to be on what they can do in Europe.”

Rangers transfer plan revealed after confirmed news
Football Insider revealed on 2 June Rangers’ new owners are expected to make big transfer funds available to their new head coach this summer.
Martin is set to be backed following his appointment at Ibrox, having previously achieved promotion with Southampton to the Premier League.
Big changes are expected at Rangers this summer, with Kevin Thelwell starting work as the club’s new sporting director last week.
