Rangers icon: This Celtic player is good but not worth price-tag Lawwell has slapped on him
By Matt Farr
Rangers icon Ally McCoist does not believe that Moussa Dembele is worth his £30million price tag.
The former Ibrox chief admitted to the Scottish Sun that the 20-year-old Celtic star was not good enough to be classed in the £30million or £40million bracket.
However, he did insist that he was a fan of the young goalscorers’ talents, and praised Celtic chief executive Peter Lawwell for trying to get as much for him.
Lawwell slapped the bumper price tag on Dembele after it was reported that Chelsea came knocking during the January transfer window, in a bid to bring him to the Premier League.
The demands were successful in fending off the interest from the Blues, at least until the summer, and McCoist praised Lawwell’s approach.

He told the Scottish Sun: “Moussa Dembele is not a £30m or £40m player. If Peter Lawwell can get that, good on him. There’s a man doing his job very well!
“He might develop into a player of that value and he’s certainly the most valuable player in the country. I like him a lot because he can finish.
“Celtic will certainly cash in on him, there’s no doubt about that, but realistically he’s not a £30-£40m man.”
Dembele’s blistering form for Celtic this season has caught the eye of a number of top European clubs, but Celtic have maintained their stance that their star player is not for sale below their asking price.
The France U21 international has already scored an incredible 32 goals for Celtic this season, including three hat-tricks.
He has also scored 12 goals in just his last six appearances in all competitions, helping Celtic extend their domestic unbeaten record and move within an arm’s reach of a sixth consecutive Scottish Premiership title.
However, they are likely to face a fierce battle to retain his services beyond the summer, and McCoist reckons that Celtic will cash in on him.
