Rangers in hunt to sign £20,000-a-wk Liverpool player who tops Gerrard shopping list – reports
Rangers are in the hunt to sign Liverpool forward Dominic Solanke, according to a report.
The Scottish Sun claims that Steven Gerrard has put the 20-year-old ex-Chelsea striker at the top of shopping list for the upcoming summer transfer window.
It is understood that Gerrard will attempt to sign Solanke on a loan deal just a year after he quit Stamford Bridge to join Liverpool.
The Express has reported that Solanke earns £20,000-a-week on the five-year contract he agreed around 12 months ago.
Football Insider verdict
Rangers are going to be linked with moves for a lot of Liverpool players over the coming weeks and months. It would be a surprise to see any of the Anfield first teamers head to Ibrox, but Solanke has really been on the fringes this season and he may be disappointed with the lack of football he has had. The one-time England international is certainly Premier League quality, just not top-six quality and there’s no wonder that he has struggled to get starts with Roberto Firmino and Mohamed Salah in the squad. Solanke is yet to score for Liverpool but he will be bossing it in Scotland and someone like him would probably walk into the Celtic first team. This is one of the reasons why Dave King hired Gerrard because he is able to attract people to Ibrox that would never consider it as a viable career option in the past. Most players expected to be signing from the Premier League would be ones well into their 30s or from teams getting relegated. But snapping up Solanke on loan would be a very good bit of business.
In other Rangers news, this 6ft 4in giant heading to Ibrox instead of Celtic is the first example of the Gerrard effect.
