Rangers are favourites to sign Oldham defender George Edmundson despite Peterborough having an offer accepted for him, Football Insider understands.

Football Insider revealed yesterday that the English League One club have had their bid of £600,000 plus add-ons accepted by Oldham.

But a source close to the situation has told Football Insider that Edmundson has set his heart on a move to Ibrox this summer regardless of Peterborough’s strong interest.

The Posh have moved quickly in a bid to try and steal a march on Rangers and other clubs interested in Edmundson.

However, the Glasgow giants are still in pole position to land Edmundson with the 21-year-old keen to link up with Steven Gerrard next season at Ibrox.

Edmundson, who has just one year to run on his current deal at Oldham, has handed in a transfer request as he tries to force a move away from Boundary Park.

Oldham are reluctant to lose Edmundson, but accept that the player can leave for the right offer considering the amount of interest in him this summer.

Edmundson is regarded as one of the best young defenders in the Football League and was rewarded for his impressive form by being named in the EFL League Two Team of the Year.

In other Rangers news, it can be REVEALED that the club have set their sights on a Manchester United senior player after a major development.
