Rangers make Danilo transfer plan after he was bombed out under Russell Martin

Rangers have enjoyed a strong start to life under Danny Rohl’s management with improvements already becoming clear on the pitch.

Despite a disappointing 3-0 defeat to Brann in the Europa League, he led Rangers to beat Kilmarnock 3-1 and Hibernian 1-0 in a major turnaround to their league form.

Meanwhile, following Russell Martin‘s departure, a number of players on the fringes of the squad have been given hope of kickstarting their careers at Ibrox.

Danilo was widely criticised at Rangers earlier this season before being bombed out of the squad, but has been given a new lease of life under Rohl’s management.

The 26-year-old had been tipped to leave Ibrox as a result, but after scoring two goals in two games under the new boss, a new plan has emerged.

Rangers make Danilo transfer U-turn after Danny Rohl decision

As a result of Danilo‘s lack of first-team action earlier this season, he had considered leaving Rangers, with Martin likely planning to sanction his departure.

However, as I revealed on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Rohl has no plans to let the striker leave in January and instead sees him as a valuable member of the squad thanks to his recent contributions on the pitch.

While he had previously been considered likely to leave, there are now plans in place to keep him, while their January spending power is expected to be limited.

Speaking on the Inside Track podcast, I explained: “Yeah, 100%. It’s a clean slate for everybody now at Rangers.

“Those players that were out of favour under Martin now have a chance to impress Rohl and it does look like Danilo is back in favour and he has taken his opportunity in the side.

“He’s scored two goals in two games, scored against Kilmarnock and then got the winner against Hibs in midweek, so he’s not done himself any harm at all.

“He’ll be hoping now that this is the start, that he can hold down a regular place in the Rangers side in attack and, as I said, as long as you’re performing well and scoring goals, it’ll only boost his chances of becoming an established player in that Rangers side.

“And again, he’s under contract until 2028 at Ibrox as well.

“Maybe with Rangers not being able to make too many signings in January, it will offer the opportunity for current squad players to become regulars in the side as well.

“And as I said, Danilo’s not doing himself any harm at all in those opening few games on the road, two goals in two games.”

This comes after Football Insider revealed Rangers are unlikely to spend big in January as a result of their summer recruitment drive to back Martin’s plans.

Rangers’ January transfer shortlist revealed

Football Insider revealed on 28 October that Rangers have a three-man shortlist of January targets as Rohl continues to assess areas for improvement in his team.

A new striker, left-back and central midfielder have been on the recruitment team’s radar, with potential improvements being considered in those positions.

However, Danilo’s return to form and the presence of Bojan Miovski up front could allow them space to move on from assessing striker targets for the mid-season window.

Meanwhile, the future of Nicolas Raskin is expected to dictate whether they pursue a new midfielder, as he continues to be linked with a move away from Ibrox.

Football Insider revealed on 19 October that Rangers have no plans to sell Raskin despite interest from a number of top European clubs including Tottenham.
