Rangers flurry of activity proves Ibrox senior man has long-term vision
COMMENT
Rangers manager Graeme Murty is only in the Ibrox hotseat until the end of the season but the Gers boss’ transfer spree is clearly showing some real long-term planning.
The Gers have secured Sean Goss and Jamie Murphy on loan until the end of the season – with a permanent agreement in place for Murphy for the summer transfer window – agreed a long-term deal with Declan John and have made reported moves for Jason Cummings, Greg Docherty and Russell Martin.
With a core of young, mainly Scottish, players Murty looks to be building a team which should be able to compete with Celtic and not need major surgery again in the summer transfer window.
The Ibrox giants have been forced into revamping their squad on numerous occasions over the last few years as they have struggled to close the gap to Old Firm rivals Celtic.
With a handful of the Gers’ current stars out of contract at the end of the season – including high-earning veteran Niko Kranjcar – the Gers look to be building strong foundations for the long-term after two wasted seasons back in Scotland’s top tier.
Murty could also look to the talented Under-20’s squad to supplement his first-team over the coming months with the likes of Serge Atakayi and Aidan Wilson potential candidates.
With Murty’s own long-term future unclear, the Gers boss and director of football Mark Allen, looks to have finally put a long-term in place which could see the Gers reap the benefits.
In other Rangers news, the Gers are expected to announce this done deal within hours after a medical is scheduled.
