Sheffield United legend: McBurnie ‘very keen’ on Rangers move
Oli McBurnie will be “very interested” in signing for Rangers and the “proper target man” would prove a hit at Ibrox.
That is according to ex-Sheffield United goalkeeper Paddy Kenny, speaking exclusively to Football Insider after the Daily Mail reported that the striker is a target for the Scottish champions.
The report claims that McBurnie, who is under contract at Bramall Lane until 2023, is valued at £15million.
McBurnie signed for United for £20m in 2019 and has since netted seven times in 58 Premier League appearances.
The 25-year-old has 17 Scotland caps, though Steve Clarke did not select him for this summer’s European Championship.
Kenny claimed that McBurnie’s Scotland connection could prove crucial in luring him north of the border.
“Rangers are a massive club just like Sheffield United,” he told Football Insider correspondent Adam Williams.
“If he has the chance to go there it proves that Steven Gerrard thinks highly of him which is always a good sign and it will be a massive move for him.
“He’s a proper target man and he’s put in in 100 per cent every time I’ve seen him play. So I don’t see why he wouldn’t succeed in Scotland.
“I’m sure a team of Rangers’ calibre could tempt anybody. With him playing for Scotland, I’m sure it will be something he’ll be very keen on.”
Rangers may be in the market for strikers this summer with Jermain Defoe yet to commit to a new contract.
Alfredo Morelos’ future is too up in the air as the Colombian centre-forward is set to attract transfer interest this summer.
