Rangers: Michael Stewart rages as Bojan Miovski disallowed goal footage re-analysed: ‘It’s not in the spirit of the game’
Rangers were unfortunate to see Bojan Miovski’s late goal ruled out during their 4-1 win over Aberdeen last weekend.
That is the view of former Hearts and Hibernian man Michael Stewart, who has revealed his frustration at the way that VAR was used to chalk off the North Macedonian’s effort.
The frontman fired the ball into the roof of the net in stoppage time at the end of the second half, but the goal was quickly ruled out for a handball from Connor Barron in the build-up to the opportunity.
It did little in terms of the final result, as James Tavernier struck the fourth for the Gers in the 96th minute to cap off a big win in response to Hearts’ earlier victory over Dundee.
Rangers’ latest win has left them just three points behind Derek McInnes’ side at the top of the table, and footage of Miovski’s disallowed effort has now been scrutinised again.

Miovski would have been delighted to see his strike find the back of the net last weekend, but instead, the 26-year-old’s joy was short-lived, as VAR decided that Barron’s handball earlier in the move was enough for the goal to be ruled out.
The Rangers midfielder had the ball struck against him from point-blank range midway through the Aberdeen half, and the goal was eventually ruled out as a change of possession had occurred.

Stewart pointed out that the incident came several seconds before the ball fell to Miovski to strike home, and he used the opportunity to criticise the way VAR is being used in the Scottish Premiership.
“I remember it happening at the time, and I remember thinking that the ref wouldn’t have seen it,” the 45-year-old said in the Scottish Football Social Club podcast.
“But then the goal happened, and I was thinking to myself, ‘Where’s it hit a hand?’ Because it was that long back.
“It feeds into that narrative again of microscopically looking at things to try and chalk off goals and send players off. I don’t think that is really in the spirit of the game.
“If the ref sees it at the time and blows his whistle, then fine. It’s getting to that point where VAR is not being used as we all anticipate it should be.”
Miovski could be set to leave Rangers this summer
Football Insider revealed back in February that Miovski could push to leave Rangers in the summer, if he remains on the fringes of Danny Rohl’s plans at Ibrox.
The former Aberdeen star has started just 13 games in the league for the Gers this season, and has often found himself playing the role of second or even first choice in recent weeks.
Miovski has played just 62 minutes of league football since 4 February, when he scored on his last league start against Kilmarnock.
The arrival of Ryan Naderi in the January transfer window has provided further competition at the top of the pitch, and both he and Youssef Chermiti have been preferred to Miovski of late.
He could now be set to evaluate his options at the end of the season, with little sign of Rohl handing him a more important role in the final stages of the title race.
