Rangers must blow English clubs out of water as Jan bids lined up for man-of-the-moment
On loan Rangers defender Declan John’s performances for the Gers have attracted interest from Championship sides Reading and Leeds – but the Gers must put a marker down and blow the English sides out the water and tie the left-back down on a permanent deal.
John is on a season-long loan at Ibrox – and is out of contract at Cardiff in the summer – however Football Insider has exclusively revealed that Reading are in dire need of a new left-back in January after losing Jordan Obita to a serious knee injury and the Welshman has emerged on their radar following his impressive form in Glasgow.
With Lee Wallace struggling to get over niggly injuries, Lee Hodson simply isn’t good enough as a back-up to let John move on when his loan deal ends.
Since coming into the Rangers side in September, man-of-the-moment John has been a breath of fresh air down the left wing with his attacking intent and running from deep positions.
Despite Wallace returning to training last week, many Rangers fans would prefer to see the 22-year-old Welshman continue in the starting XI ahead of the club captain.

While Rangers can barely match the finances on offer in the second tier of English football, the Light Blues have the added attraction of competing for trophies and likely playing in Europe as an incentive for a permanent move north.
Reading and Leeds – who are lining up bids for John in January – could however steal a march on the Gers with the Ibrox giants still looking for a permanent manager after Pedro Caixinha’s sacking two months ago.
The absence of a permanent boss means it’s unlikely the Gers will be in a position to make an offer to John any time soon, even if it’s perfectly clear that the Wales international would be an ideal summer signing at Ibrox.
