Rangers must hijack reported swoop for international defender with seven-figure price-tag
Hearts defender John Souttar could be set for a £1million-plus move to Championship side Derby County – but Rangers should steal a march and hijack any potential move for the Scotland international defender.
Souttar has been one of the Jambos’ top performers this season and the Scottish Sun claim that the Rams could make a summer move for the 21-year-old in a seven-figure deal.
The Ibrox giants will almost certainly need to bring in at least one central defender in the summer and Souttar is exactly the type of player the Light Blues should be targeting.
Souttar has been tipped for the top since making the breakthrough at Dundee United a few years ago and the talented youngster should be high on director of football Mark Allen’s summer shopping list.
The defender is also comfortable playing as a holding midfielder and his versatility makes him a more enticing porspect for the Gers as they rebuild their squad in the summer.

Souttar has made 77 appearances for the Jambos since his switch from Tannadice and while the Edinburgh side are unlikely to want to sell, a move to Ibrox could be too tempting for the defender to turn down.
With Bruno Alves, Fabio Cardoso and Russell Martin all potentially leaving the club in the summer, the Gers will need new defenders and Souttar fits the bill exactly.
