Rangers must sign ex-Euro giants enforcer available for free after tearing up contract
COMMENT
Rangers have a glaringly obvious problem in their side ahead of the January transfer window and are likely to have little in the way of funds to help solve it – however a recently released player will work out be the perfect solution.
France international Lassana Diarra has recently been released by his team, Al Jazira, who announced the player’s departure by mutual consent on their official Twitter account on Sunday.
Now that he has torn up his contract with Al’Jazira, the enforcer would be an ideal signing for new permanent Rangers boss Graeme Murty and director of football Mark Allen to make.
The 32-year-old former French international has had a stellar career, with most notable spells at European giants Real Madrid, Chelsea and Arsenal, and before moving to Saudi Arabia his spent a few years with Marseille.
The fact that Diarra recently played in Ligue 1 shows that he still has the ability to play at a high standard, which is far higher than the Scottish Premiership.
With the Gers desperately needing some strength in midfield Diarra seems like an ideal signing to make.
He would be the ideal player to mentor Ross McCrorie, the 19-year-old who has recently started playing as a defensive midfielder, which has been Diarra’s position for years.
A signing like Diarra, who at 32-years-old still have a good few years left of football in him, would be a statement of intent from the Ibrox club, perhaps similar to Celtic’s signing of Kolo Toure, the player might not be at the club for a long period of time, but has the ability to be hugely influential in his time there.
