Rangers need to bite bullet and make crucial decision ASAP

COMMENT

Rangers slipped to a 2-2 draw with Motherwell on Saturday as their hopes of finishing second in the Scottish Premiership took a huge dent – and the Gers board need to make a decision as soon as possible on the club’s managerial situation.

Graeme Murty has been in charge since October with the Gers board believed to be waiting until the end of the season to make a decision on Murty’s future but if the former Scotland international isn’t going to be in charge then the Ibrox board have no reason for waiting until the end of the season.

While there’s no stand-out candidate to take the reins at Ibrox long-term, if the Gers board want to get fans onside before season tickets go on sale then they are going to have to pull a rabbit out of their hat and make an appointment which will get Gers fans excited about next season.

This time 12 months ago, the Gers board appointed Pedro Caixinha to give him time to assess the squad and make decisions over who or what he needed to add to his squad to give him the best chance at success the following season.

So what has changed?

Are the Gers board now happy to let a manager come in to the club in June, or even July, and make an assessment of his squad, complete his transfer business and get the side playing the way they want them to?

With Murty having been in the post for six months, if the Gers board haven’t at least sounded out potential replacements then they are simply not doing enough to take the club forwards.

Now it’s time for Dave King and co to show the Rangers fans just what they have been doing since sacking Pedro Caixinha before Halloween and convince the fans they can make the right appointment.
