Rangers news: Alfredo Morelos ‘slated’ by Michael Beale after what pundit heard
Frank McAvennie has claimed Alfredo Morelos deserved to be left on the bench for Rangers in his final game against Celtic.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Hoops striker said that the “writing has been on the wall” for Morelos since Michael Beale’s comments last weekend (8 May).
As quoted by PLZ Soccer (8 May) after the Gers’ 1-0 win over Aberdeen, the manager claimed Morelos didn’t make a positive difference when he was subbed on for the final half hour of the match.
Beale also confirmed that the striker will be leaving Ibrox at the end of the season when his current contract expires.
The 26-year-old was named on the bench for his final Old Firm on Saturday (13 May) but was an unused substitute in the 3-0 win over their Glasgow rivals.
When asked if he was surprised Morelos wasn’t given any game time in the final clash against the side’s oldest rivals, McAvennie told Football Insider: “No.
“I think he has had his chance.
“I knew when the manager mentioned him the week before and said that he did not do anything for the team, has no movement, I knew that was it finished.
“When you get slated by the manager in public the writing is on the wall.“

On 9 May, sources told this site that the Light Blues did in face open new contract talks with the Colombian, despite claims from the manager that no new deal was offered.
But the forward is preparing to quit the Glasgow club at the end of the 2022-23 campaign for free after failing to agree new terms.
