Rangers could see the return of Danilo at the club this summer as his loan move to NEC Nijmegen continues to be unfruitful.

The striker was sent out to the Dutch club in the winter window as Danny Rohl looked to overhaul his squad.

However, his move to the Eredivisie has not gone to plan, with Danilo yet to find the back of the net.

Now, there appears to be a real possibility that NEC will not activate the option to buy for the striker, meaning an Ibrox return is likely.

Below, Football Insider examines why this has once again exposed Rangers’ awful transfer strategy.

Rangers set to get stuck with Danilo

Danilo has been out of favour at Rangers for some time.

While under Russell Martin, he was receiving some game time, Rohl clearly does not fancy the attacker, resulting in few opportunities for him to impress.

Therefore, with multiple new faces coming through the door in the winter window, it was no surprise that Rangers were willing to let him go.

However, their decision for this to only be a loan move with an option to buy is baffling, and it has now come back to haunt them.

Unless there is a turnaround in form, journalist Sander Janssen believes that Danilo will return to Ibrox in the summer.

NEC doesn’t have to make a decision about Danilo just now. But looking at his performances, it doesn’t seem likely. Who knows what he will show in the rest of the season.

This has once again exposed Rangers, as they will now have to try and offload Danilo once again in the summer.

Why the club didn’t just sell the striker in the winter window instead of letting him go out on loan is simply baffling.

Now, the attacker will be worth even less, and this whole situation will have left the Gers red-faced.

Will Ranger target another striker in the summer transfer window?

Football Insider has exclusively revealed that Rangers are pursuing FC Zurich striker Philippe Keny ahead of the summer transfer window.

The 26-year-old quickly made his mark in the league where he already has 12 goals in 26 appearances.

The Senegal international is now expected to command a price tag between £4million and £6m, with his current contract set to run until 2028.

Therefore, it remains to be seen if the Gers are able to prize him away from the Swiss Super League or if they will have to move on to other targets.
