Rangers news: Pundit issues 'massive' Kemar Roofe prediction after what he's seen

Kemar Roofe can shoulder the “massive weight of expectation” at Rangers ahead of games against Braga and Celtic this week.

That is the view of former Aberdeen striker Noel Whelan, who was speaking exclusively to Football Insider in the wake of the 29-year-old’s hat-trick in the 4-0 win against St Mirren (10 April).

Roofe, deputising for Alfredo Morelos after his season-ending injury, has now scored 15 Rangers goals this season despite numerous fitness struggles.

As quoted by The Scottish Sun after Sunday’s game, Roofe claimed he has “already proven” he is able to fill the void left by the Colombian.

Whelan insisted the treble will have done the former Leeds striker “the world of good” despite his comments.

“It was a massive performance from Kemar Roofe,” he told Football Insider‘s Ewan Kingsbury.

“He probably needed it, and the manager definitely needed that boost and that bit of confidence.

“It’s a nice pick-me-up after getting that news about Morelos – especially ahead of the game against Braga and the Celtic cup game.

“It’s a timely hattrick, and the whole team will take great pleasure having seen that.

I think Roofe is more than capable of taking this massive weight of expectation over the next week.

“He can produce the goals, and that performance will have done him the world of good.”

Rangers host Braga at Ibrox on Thursday (14 April) having lost the first leg of their Europa League quarter-final clash 1-0.

The Gers then face Celtic in the Scottish Cup semi-final on Sunday (17 April).
