Rangers now in hunt to sign forward who loves ‘phenomenal’ Alfredo Morelos
Rangers want to re-sign Josh Windass in the January transfer window as Danny Rohl seeks to reunite with his former player at Ibrox.
Windass has scored six goals and notched three assists in 19 Championship appearances for Wrexham this season, after he joined Rohl in leaving Sheffield Wednesday in the summer.
Rohl was appointed as Rangers boss in October after Russell Martin had been sacked following a poor start to the campaign, and he is aiming to bolster his attacking options next month.
Windass has emerged as a target for Rangers ahead of January, with Rohl believed to be driving their pursuit as he is a big fan of his abilities from their successful spell together at Hillsborough.
The 31-year-old played 73 times for Rangers between 2016 and 2018 before a controversial move to Wigan Athletic, and he loved playing alongside mercurial Colombian forward Morelos at Ibrox.

Windass never truly won Rangers fans over during his two-year spell at the club, and he departed on bad terms after leaving their team bus on the way to a Europa League clash to sign for Wigan.
Morelos, meanwhile, was loved by the Ibrox faithful for his impressive scoring record and hotheaded nature during his six-year spell at the club between 2017 and 2023.
His first season as a Rangers player saw him link up well with Windass, as they both netted 18 goals in all competitions, but they failed to win any silverware that year, finishing third in the Premiership.
In an interview with the Daily Record in 2019, Windass spoke of his admiration for the Colombian striker, despite the bad feeling around the club at the time of their strong partnership.
He said: “In my second season, myself and Alfredo Morelos scored and set up a lot of goals.
“I scored 18 and he got roughly the same. Yet we took the brunt of it for most of the campaign.
“Thankfully, Alfredo has turned it around and has now scored a phenomenal amount of goals. He has done brilliantly.”

Rohl and Windass worked together at Wednesday for over a year and a half following the former’s appointment as their manager in October 2023.
Windass scored seven times in 28 games in their first campaign at Hillsborough, while he notched 13 goals and six assists in 47 appearances last season as they avoided the drop on both occasions.
Rohl loved working with Windass in South Yorkshire, as he praised him as a “great player” who has “good movement between the lines” in November 2023.
He also spoke highly of him in April 2024 after he scored a fine goal against Blackburn Rovers, when he said: “For Josh the last weeks have not been easy, he had a big injury and again, I told him he must take responsibility.
“If you want to be a big player and a strong leader on the pitch then you must also take responsibility and show up, it makes no sense just to talk. He did this.
“He delivered, he fought for every inch and this was important, he showed his quality. With this performance from everybody we can go in the last two games.”
