Rangers 2-2 Partick: Striker struggles as Gers are held
By James Black
Alfredo Morelos scored his sixth league goal in as many games as the Light Blues were held to a 2-2 draw with Partick Thistle at Firhill on Friday night.
The Colombian striker struggled despite getting his name on the score-sheet in the first half and could have had more had he been more clinical in-front of the target.
The Gers could have drawn level with league leaders Celtic before next weekend’s Old Firm clash with a big enough win but now go into it potentially five points behind Brendan Rodgers’ side.
Rangers took the lead when Ryan Jack found Morelos unmarked in the Jags’ penalty box after 19 minutes and the 21-year-old smashed the ball into the bottom corner.
Thistle got back on level terms through Blair Spittal’s free-kick five minutes into the second-half.

Ten minutes later, Spittal’s cross found Chris Erskine and the attacker tapped in to an early net to make it 2-1 to the hosts.
The hosts were then reduced to ten men after Erskine’s horrific challenge on Morelos.
Graham Dorrans got Rangers back into the game with a fantastic strike from the edge of the box 13 minutes from time.
The ex-Norwich midfielder rattled one into the far corner as Pedro Caixinha’s side looked to complete a comeback win at Firhill for the third consecutive game.
Rangers continued to push forward for a third goal and pushed everything at breaking down the Thistle defence as the tried to draw level before Willie Collum made an utterly baffling decision.
After an injury-time shot at goal was blocked by a Partick Thistle defender, another fell over the top of it before Morelos got involved and Collum awarded Partick a free-kick.
