Paul Gascoigne made an emotional return to Rangers on Saturday and delivered his verdict on the Gers fans after walking onto the Ibrox pitch, calling them “fantastic”.
The former England international moved to Rangers in 1995 and stayed for three years, becoming a fan favourite straight away for his skills on the pitch and his antics off it.
He was invited back ahead of the game against Hibernian and fans gave him a warm welcome, although he couldn’t inspire the current crop of Rangers stars to a win.
Rangers passed on the chance to draw closer to Celtic at the top of the table, after the champions lost o Kilmarnock.
Rangers lost 2-1 in a hugely disappointing result for Graeme Murty and his men.
Gascoigne was touched by his reception from the Rangers fans, which he called “fantastic”.
“fantastic. i was more nervous then when I was playing. I knew what I was doing when I was playing.
“I wish I was playing. I had a great time here. I did well here. i really enjoyed my football at Rangers.
He said that he still follows Rangers and that he’s glad they’ve come back to the Premiership after years in the wilderness.
The interview with Gascoigne was posted on the Rangers website on Sunday afternoon.
