‘Rangers plan to accept new Cyriel Dessers offer after talks stall’

Rangers are prepared to accept offers from Cyriel Dessers this summer as clubs are prepared to hijack AEK Athens’ early move for the striker.

That is according to former Man United and Blackburn chief scout Mick Brown, who remains very well-connected within the game, as he exclusively told Football Insider that Russell Martin is planning for life without the 30-year-old.

AEK Athens have so far failed to meet the Ibrox club’s asking price after extensive talks and alternative clubs are now being encouraged to make offers to sign the Nigeria international.

This comes after Football Insider revealed in February that multiple European clubs want to sign Dessers after missing out on his signing in the mid-season window.

Rangers are preparing to use the money from the striker’s sale to fund the signing of a new striker, and are keen to move quickly as they push for his departure.

Football Insider revealed on 14 March that Rangers are preparing to replace Dessers amid an initial interest in St Mirren forward Toyosi Olusanya.

Rangers plan to accept new Cyriel Dessers offer

Brown told Football Insider in January that Rangers are open to offers for Dessers but will only sell him for the right price amid ongoing speculation about his future.

The former scout, who has a wealth of experience in top-level player recruitment after over a decade at Man United during their most successful period, insisted that Martin is keen to move the striker on to facilitate new additions to his squad.

Rangers have been looking to cash in on Dessers,” he told Football Insider.

“There have been talks about a move away, but their asking price hasn’t been met yet so those talks have delayed and other clubs might be able to step in.

“I think there are a few sides who have been keeping an eye on his situation.

“We know Rangers want to sign a new striker, but they might have to wait until Dessers leaves.

“That will free up space in the squad and hopefully bring them a bit more money to spend.

“I expect they’ll be looking to drum up more interest now to get a deal done quickly because they don’t want to keep waiting around not knowing the situation.”

Russell Martin eyes Jesurun Rak-Sakyi deal with Crystal Palace

A new striker is not the only position Martin is looking to strengthen in this summer, as Rangers are considering a move to sign Crystal Palace winger Jesurun Rak-Sakyi.

Brown told Football Insider on 8 July that Rangers want to sign Rak-Sakyi on loan with a potential option or obligation to buy next summer.

Palace have set a £10million asking price for the 22-year-old and would prefer to cash in this summer, but are open to discussions about a potential structured deal.

Rangers are not the only club interested in Rak-Sakyi, as Brown told Football Insider that Southampton are considering opening talks with Crystal Palace.
