‘Rangers plotting up to eight summer signings – they will be a force again’
Rangers now have new ownership and a new head coach in place at Ibrox ahead of the 2025-26 campaign.
Russell Martin was appointed as the new Gers coach last week, shortly after 49ers Enterprises and Andrew Cavenagh completed their buyout.
Transfer plans, led by new sporting director Kevin Thelwell, will now be the focus at Rangers with Champions League qualifying kicking off next month.
Football Insider revealed on Monday (2 June) that Rangers’ new owners are expected to make big transfer funds available to Martin after completing a £20million share issue.
Aberdeen’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Pittodrie between 2000 and 2004, had lengthy spells as the chief of Everton and Aston Villa and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – claimed he expects Rangers to make up to eight signings in this summer alone.
‘Rangers will be a power again in two years’, says Wyness
Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Wyness insisted he expects Rangers’ transfer overhaul to continue into next January and the summer of 2026.
The Ibrox club finished 17 points adrift of Celtic in the 2024-25 campaign, a chaotic season which saw Philippe Clement sacked mid-season.
Wyness insisted he expects Rangers to become a force again within two years.

He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “I think Rangers will be looking at six, seven, eight new signings.
“They’ve got a lot to do. When I first came into Aston Villa, I had to do 12 out and 12 in within six weeks.
“I know how destroying that is for your brain, believe me.
“It’s a big move. A lot of that will have to be scouting overseas players, so a lot of those decisions will have to be based on trust in people and in data.
“It’s tough decisions without having a lot of time.
“There will be a big overhaul, they have to do that. I expect them to continue through to the January window, and probably an even bigger move next summer.
“Martin has to keep everyone onside in the first season, and if he does that – I expect to see Rangers being a power again in two years’ time.”

‘Rangers set sights on sensational Christian Eriksen deal’
Meanwhile, Rangers are reportedly considering a sensational move to sign Christian Eriksen on a free transfer ahead of his imminent departure from Man United.
That is according to former Man United chief scout and Sir Alex Ferguson number two Mick Brown, who remains very well-connected within the game.
Eriksen is out of contract at United at the end of this month and will seek a move elsewhere.
