Rangers ‘sackable offence’ confirmed: Fans explode at ‘gross misconduct’
Rangers fans have been left stunned after it was confirmed how little they made from player sales during this summer’s transfer window.
The club sold five players during the summer transfer window. Todd Cantwell joined Blackburn Rovers on deadline day, having not seen eye to eye with manager Philippe Clement.
Another to leave was Sam Lammers, who joined Twente permanently after excelling on loan with another Dutch side, Utrecht, in the second-half of last season.
Elsewhere, Connor Goldson, Robby McCrorie and Scott Wright were sold to Aris Limmasol, Kilmarnock and Birmingham City respectively.
Now the full amount received by Rangers for those five players has been confirmed, and it has left many fans unimpressed with the work of the board.
Rangers fans hit out after transfer income confirmed
Speaking at the club’s AGM on Thursday (5 December), chief financial officer James Taylor confirmed [Rangers Review] figures in their annual accounts showing that a total of £800,000 was raised in player sales in the summer, were correct.
As a result, an average of just £160,000 was brought into Ibrox for each of the five players sold by the club in that period.
Given the relative quality of those who were sold in that period, and some of the investments that had been made on them, many Rangers fans were hugely unimpressed by the work of those behind the scenes at the club.
In some cases, that included Nils Koppen, who recently stepped up from Head of Recruitment to the role of Technical Director at Ibrox and was accused of a “failure of negotiation”.
The bargain fees were branded “crazy”, while it was seen as a “sackable offence” to get such a meagre return.
