Rangers are set to battle it out with Hibernian in a bid to sign Manchester City winger Brandon Barker, according to a report.
The Scottish Sun claims that the 21-year-old is on a list of targets drawn up by Gers director of football Mark Allen.
The player spent last season on-loan at Hibernian, making 30 appearances and the report claims that Neil Lennon’s side are eager to have the player return to Easter Road next season.
Football Insider verdict
This is certainly an unexpected development, as the Gers have not really been linked with that many wingers so far in the transfer window. Mark Allen must have been impressed with what he saw with Barker though, as he has recommended to Gers boss Steven Gerrard that the Light Blues should consider making a move for the Englishman. Baker didn’t score that many goals last season – only two – but he has the ability to play on both wings that is always very handy. No doubt the deal would only be a loan one, as Manchester City are unlikely to want one of their prospects departing the club on a permanent basis. The big question for the winger though, is would he get into the Gers team on a permanent basis, and at the moment the answer would probably be ‘no’. The player could well have an interesting decision to make on his future in the weeks to come.
