By Derek Smithson
Rangers are set to sign Cagliari defender Bruno Alves this week, according to a report.
The Evening Times claim that the Gers are poised to sign the 35-year-old in the next few days and complete their first deal of the summer.
The report details that the centre-back could sign a deal at Ibrox before he links up with Portugal for the Confederations Cup.
Pedro Caixinha is set to undergo a huge overhaul of his squad in the summer transfer window as he looks to get the Scottish giants competing at the top-end of the table.
They finished third on their return to the top flight and have a huge gap to bridge if they are to be competitive with champions Celtic.

Alves looks set to be the first addition to the squad and the experienced defender will be considered a massive coup by many.
He has been an ever-present in the Cagliari backline this season in Serie A and could now get his first taste of Scottish football.
The centre-back has been a serial winner throughout his career and won league titles in Portugal, Turkey and Russia.
Football Insider verdict:
Rangers are losing centre-back Clint Hill in the summer when his contract expires and Alves would be a brilliant replacement. The 35-year-old has proven that he still has the quality despite being in the latter stages of his career and he could certainly be a success at Ibrox. Rangers need several top quality players if they are to compete domestically and the capture of Portugal international Alves would be a big statement. They are set to lose the leadership of Hill in the side and that is something that their imminent arrival can replicate.
In other Rangers transfer news, they have stepped up their bid to sign Graham Dorrans.
