Forget Barton, this would be Rangers marquee signing of the season

COMMENT By Emma Sanders

Rangers will land their best signing of the season if they secure a deal for Emerson Hyndman.

The young American has been linked with a move to the Ibrox after it was reported he carried out a medical at the start of the week and he could become the club’s first January signing.

Hyndman could complete a six-month loan move from Bournemouth after struggling to gain regular first team action under Eddie Howe this season.

If Rangers seal the deal, he could go on to prove he is the best buy of the season because he has even more potential to bring quality than Joey Barton did.

It was a big statement when Rangers signed Barton in the summer before they added Niko Kranjcar and Jordan Rossiter to the list of impressive midfielders.

However, the capture of Hyndman will work out better than the disappointment of Barton because he possesses similar qualities with the added impact of youth and temperament.

At the age of 20, he has huge talent and his passing ability will bring something extra to the Rangers squad, which lacks that bit of quality in midfield.

He can tear teams apart when going forward because he has the ability to split defenders with deadly through balls and his creative influence has been matched by his rise in market value which has shot up in the last 18 months.

Hyndman has currently made three appearances for Bournemouth this season after an injury set-back in the summer delayed his involvement but he has already made his international debut for the USA senior team.

If Rangers can get the best out of him, he could be a player the club could turn to in the future if a long-term deal is available following his initial stint.
