Injured Rangers star details boost after recovery time is slashed
Rangers star Ross McCrorie has admitted his “relief” at not needing to undergo surgery to repair a foot problem that has sidelined him since the turn of the year.
The 19-year-old picked up the injury against Ross County in December but played through it before being sidelined for the whole of January.
McCrorie was worrying about having to go under the knife, but in a welcome boost, the teenager has revealed his recovery time has been slashed without having to have surgery.
The defender saw a specialist last week to determine if he would require surgery to repair his foot but was relieved to find out it should heal with a few more weeks rest.
“It was a relief not to have had to go for an operation as that would have kept me out a lot longer so I’ll take the word of the physios and docs that rest is all that’s needed to heal it,” McCrorie said, as quoted by the Evening Times.
“It happened in the Ross County game and I played through it. They thought the period of rest in the first week off in January would help but it didn’t work so I get a scan and it showed a few things up, although I don’t want to go into too much detail.
“It’s bad enough, it’s not really ideal but hopefully it will heal soon.”
The 19-year-old has been a revelation since breaking into the Ibrox first-team in September and has gone on to make 18 appearances since making his debut v Partick Thistle.
McCrorie recently signed a new long-term contract that will keep him tied to his boyhood heroes, alongside twin brother Robby, until the summer of 2022.
The Scotland Under-21 international had loan spells with Ayr United and Dumbarton before breaking into the first-team at Ibrox but is now one of the first names on Graeme Murty’s team-sheet.
With Danny Wilson having now left the Ibrox giants, McCrorie could find himself moved back into the centre of defence after being used to great effect as a holding midfielder by Graeme Murty in a number of games.
