Rangers star throws down gauntlet to Celtic after delivering best 'in the world' verdict

Rangers star Alfredo Morelos has thrown down the gauntlet to fierce rivals Celtic by revealing he has promised his family that he will score in the next Old Firm derby.

The Colombian striker has already featured in three clashes between the Glasgow rivals but despite his hot streak for the Gers this season, is yet to find the back of the net against the Hoops, missing some good opportunities to break his duck.

With another derby day penned in for the Scottish Cup semi-final this month, he has warned the Bhoys to be ready, as he looks to make good on a personal commitment to his family and net in what he calls one of the world’s best derbies.

He told El Colombiano: “I’ve already played in three (derbies).

“Playing it is something incredible. It is one of the best derbies in the world.

“The city is paralyzed when the day of the match arrives. Each team and the fans live this encounter with a lot of passion and that is transmitted to you.

“Scoring a goal in the derby is a pending debt, I have spoken with my family, I have promised and I hope that in the next I can do it to dedicate it to them.

“The fans also ask me to score goals against Celtic.”

The 21-year-old has scored 17 goals in his 37 appearances for the Light Blues since arriving in a £1million deal last summer.

Rangers fans will be desperate to see Morelos net against the Hoops and will be hoping that some inspiration from his promise to his family can help drive him on. He has not enjoyed the best of performances against the club’s fierce rivals and he took a lot of criticism for his shocking miss in the 3-2 defeat last time out. Still, at 21, he has time on his side to finally get the goal which will secure his place in Gers history, but whether that happens this season, fans will have to wait and see. Celtic have been dominant over the Light Blues in recent years and they will be looking to continue that streak on the way to a second successive treble winning season.
