Rangers suffer crushing Morgan Whittaker blow after deal agreed – expert

Rangers will be disappointed to miss out on signing Morgan Whittaker.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former Gers defender Alan Hutton is surprised Whittaker is opting for a move to Plymouth Argyle over the Ibrox club.

On Monday (17 July), Football Insider revealed that Whittaker is undergoing a medical at Home Park after the Gers were beaten to his signature.

Rangers had multiple bids for the 22-year-old rejected in January and their interest continued into the summer window but Plymouth confirmed (17 July) that they have signed the attacker on a permanent deal.

Whittaker spent the first half of the 2022-23 season on loan at Plymouth where he scored nine goals in 31 appearances.

When asked if he was surprised Whittaker opted for a permanent move to The Pilgrims instead of joining Rangers, Hutton told Football Insider:I am going to be slightly biased here but Rangers are an outstanding football team.

They are a team that is going to go for trophies year in year out, they are going to play in European competitions, they play in front of 52,000 regularly, there are so many pluses to go up to Ibrox and play your football there.

Rangers

I think he is somebody that could make a difference.

[Michael] Beale has been after him for a while now and watching what he is all about I think he can add something to the squad so it is a shame that they are going to miss out.
