Rangers’ summer signing plan revealed after Lawrence Shankland decision made

Rangers manager Danny Rohl is set to target signing younger players who he can help develop in the upcoming summer transfer window.

Three of the Gers’ four January signings were 22-years-old, outlining a clear shift in transfer strategy in Rohl’s first window at the helm.

They are currently aiming to finish the season on an ultimate high by winning the Premiership title ahead of Hearts and Celtic.

As I revealed on the latest edition of Football Insider’s Transfer Insider podcast, Rangers will focus on signing younger players in the summer, no matter what happens this season.

Rangers’ transfer plans are already in motion, but they need to confirm which European competition they will be playing in next season before progressing with certain deals.

Rangers changing summer transfer plans to suit Danny Rohl’s desires

Rangers have long been linked with a move for Hearts striker Lawrence Shankland, but any deal now looks unlikely to happen after their emergence into title contention this season.

Not only do Hearts not want to let him leave, but Rangers have now also moved on from signing older players like him, in favour of younger stars that Rohl can bring on.

Speaking on the Transfer Insider podcast, I explained: “(Shankland) doesn’t fit the profile for what Rangers are trying to do.

“Rangers are looking at more younger players who they can help develop, and players with big potential that maybe they can move on in the future.”

Rangers plotting Luca Stephenson move after impressive Ibrox audition

Sources have told Football Insider that Rangers are interested in Stephenson ahead of the summer, as he shines on loan at Dundee United from Liverpool.

The Gers’ hierarchy were keeping an eye on the 22-year-old last weekend as he picked up an assist in United’s 4-2 loss at Ibrox.

Celtic are also interested in signing him this summer, but Stephenson will return to Liverpool at the end of the campaign before any decision on his future is made.
