Rangers must have forgotten about international midfielder ready to quit high-flying club
Rangers manager Graeme Murty has started work on a substantial reshaping of his squad so far in the January transfer window but there has been one long-term name barely mentioned alongside the Gers this month – Aberdeen and Scotland midfielder Kenny McLean.
The 26-year-old has long been reported to be a target for the Gers but it appears any move for the boyhood Gers fan is dead.
It was confirmed earlier in October that the Scotland international would quit high-flying Aberdeen at the end of the season when his contract ends – with fans hoping the Ibrox giants would move for the former St. Mirren star this month.
With Sean Goss’ arrival and the return of Andy Halliday – as well as the reported signing of Greg Docherty from Hamilton – there’s not really much room in the rapidly expanding Rangers squad.
Rangers could still move for McLean later in the month – or even wait and tie him down on a pre-contract – if there is still an interest in the Aberdeen star.
McLean’s former team-mate at Pittodrie Ryan Jack made an identical move last summer when he left the Dons when his contract ended to sign for the Ibrox giants.
Jack has immediately made an impact for the Light Blues and McLean could prove to be a valuable signing by the Gers if they do bring the 26-year-old to Ibrox.
In other Rangers news, the Gers are expected to announce this done deal within hours after a medical is scheduled.
