Rangers tipped to accept ‘£20m-plus’ Calvin Bassey bid after update – Ibrox pundit

Alan Hutton has insisted Rangers will accept a bid of £20million-plus for Calvin Bassey this summer.

The former Gers defender and Rangers TV pundit, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, suggested the Light Blues’ financial position will allow them to demand a high fee for the 22-year-old.

The Daily Mail (26 May) claim the Glasgow giants have placed a £25million asking price on Bassey amid interest from Aston Villa and West Ham.

Rangers

As revealed by Football Insider (21 May), Rangers are preparing to offer the defender a bumper pay rise in contract talks to ward off rival interest.

Hutton admitted every player at Rangers has their price.

However, he insisted the £12million-plus deal for Nathan Patterson, plus last season’s Europa League run, puts the Gers in a position of financial strength during negotiations.

Hutton told Football Insider’s Russell Edge: “Nathan Patterson’s exit was a lot of money in itself. Then you think of the European run.

“Obviously they’re not straight into the Champions League but there’s an opportunity to get there. Hopefully, the finances will be looking good at the moment.

“I think you have to be aware that every player at Rangers and Celtic has a price. If it’s met, they will go. If someone comes in with £20million-plus for Calvin Bassey, he’ll be gone. It’s as simple as that.

“They obviously don’t want to let their top assets go. Bassey is the type of guy you could build your team around, whether it’d be at centre-half or full-back.

“Like I said, if some sort of fee like that comes in, he’ll be gone.”

Rangers

Bassey has played 64 times across all competitions for Rangers.

He made 49 appearances during the 2021/22 campaign.
