Rangers tipped to agree Reuell Walters deal after ‘what they’ve seen’ – expert

Rangers have been tipped to sign former Arsenal right-back Reuell Walters amid questions over the future of James Tavernier.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former Gers full-back Alan Hutton insisted Walters fits the transfer model at Ibrox with Philippe Clement targeting younger options.

After the likes of Ryan Jack, Borna Barisic and John Lundstram were released upon the end of their contracts, the club are looking to move in a new direction with their recrutiment.

Walters, 19, left Arsenal upon the expiry of his deal and is now available on a free transfer after failing to make a first-team appearance.

His ability to play at both right-back and centre-back has attracted interest in his signature, with Clement’s side tipped to explore a deal.

Meanwhile, as reported by Football Insider, Tavernier could bet set to leave Ibrox this summer amid interest from clubs in Saudi Arabia.

Hutton, however, insists Walters will not go straight into the first-team regardless of Tavernier’s exit given his age and lack of experience.

They have to consider all options,” he told Football Insider.

There are a lot of positions that are up in the air at this moment in time with the five players leaving already, there was a lot of experience in there.

Walters is young, he’s only 19. Arsenal let go 22 players and he was within that.

He fits the bill in the way Rangers are looking to move forward. He’ll come in, hungry to learn and to get better with an option to probably move on.

These are the type of players Clement and the backroom staff are looking for.

He’s been brought up at Arsenal, he’s technically gifted and Rangers have seen something in him.

He’s not going to come in and be a starter, even with questions marks over James Tavernier, but there’s room for him to improve and grow as a player.”
